Have you ever had a real-life experience that felt more like a dream? Those magical moments when the world around you fades away, the soundtrack in your mind takes over, and you find yourself living in a state of pure euphoria. I live for these experiences—when time seems to stand still, and nothing matters except what’s right in front of you.
Having heard countless friends rave about the elephant sanctuaries in Thailand, I decided it was time to see what all the hype was about. These homes for gentle giants are scattered across the country, but during my stay in Chiang Mai, I opted to visit one that promised a more serene experience. That’s how I discovered Ran-tong Save & Rescue Elephant Center. Out of all the options, this sanctuary stood out to me because of its dedication to rescuing and caring for elephants from abandoned or abusive situations. It felt like the perfect fit.
“These are your pets. They need your love.” Our guide’s words resonated deeply as we began our day.
I spent a half-day immersed in the beauty of this sanctuary. Upon arrival, we were provided with traditional clothing, including slippers and a hat—it was definitely giving “Farmer George”, but I was grateful for the protection from the dirt. From there, we got to meet our new friends! Seeing these majestic creatures up close was nothing short of magical, an experience that lives rent free in my head. From that moment on, you couldn’t tell me I wasn’t Mowgli in The Jungle Book!
The rest of the day was spent truly caring for the elephants as if they were our own. We prepared their food, fed them, walked alongside them, and even bathed them. What makes Ran-tong unique is the way that the sanctuary allows you to feel like a part of the elephants’ lives, even if just for a few hours, rather than merely being a spectator. It was an unparalleled experience that I will cherish forever.

Among all of my adventures in Thailand, this one stands out the most! Ran-tong Save & Rescue Elephant Center made it an experience I’ll never forget, and I can’t recommend a visit enough during your stay in Chiang Mai.
Until the next Runway people; keep strutting through life, one adventure at a time.
